Umar has been in active litigation practice since 2009. After a very brief stint with (the defunct) Oceanic Insurance, Umar joined the Law Firm of Babalakin & Co in January 2010, and later rose to become a Litigation Team Coordinator in less than two years. He later became a Pioneer member of the Law Firm of Lexavier Partners where he was Head of Litigation for four years whilst progressing steadily through the ranks until he became a Partner. Umar is currently the Managing Partner of Nobilis Solicitors.
Umar has conducted litigation for many clients in the banking and finance sector including: Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), Union Bank, Keystone Bank, Diamond Bank, Zenith Bank, Guaranty Trust Bank and Auchi Microfinance Bank.
Umar was a key member of the team that successfully represented a foreign multinational company in 2010, in a $97 million suit against one of the world’s largest telecommunications company. Umar was also actively involved in the successful defense of a N14 billion action against a Multi-million dollar Estate and construction firm. Before joining Nobilis Solicitors, Umar was a member of the team that represented a client in a multi-million Naira debt recovery action against one of Nigeria’s largest Financial Institutions/issuing Houses.
Umar has also in recent times advised the International Committee of the Red Cross, Geneva on an ambit of its operations in Nigeria and is presently advising a Mining Company about to commence operations in Nigeria.
